Medical Device Product Development and Commercialization
Product design must take into account the many stakeholders and strategies: patient, physician, payer, regulatory, intellectual property, investors, engineering, manufacturing, and profitability. I have experience designing multiple medical devices that strategically align with these competing requirements.
ELWorking with Tab at Zien Medical was a great experience. Tab has a natural talent for engineering, and possesses qualities that apply to all professions. TMAs an engineer at Zien Medical Technologies (a contract engineering and regulatory firm), Tab worked as the Zien project lead for our medical device – the PenBlade safety scalpel. Tab did a superb job in every respect – design (product and packaging), prototyping, manufacturing coordination, quality control, regulatory compliance, and other vital areas of support. At Zien I managed product development for several different medical devices. As the principle engineer on these products I would be involved strategy and decision making around the devices as well as the implementation of the decisions. My efforts at Zien involved: • Prevented delays (up to 6 months) for ~5 projects as the primary engineer to analyze failures and generate solutions • Inventor - 2 medical device patents, 2 additional provisional patents • Launched 2 medical devices as principal engineer • On a continual basis, worked directly with multi-disciplinary clients developing new and existing designs

I performed technical support to engineering clients for SolidWorks mechanical engineering software. While in this position, I took the initiative to read through 1000+ pages in training manuals to achieve 3 certifications in SolidWorks adding to the value of the support team.

At illuMed Global I performed fundraising activities and oversaw product and business development in a team of 7 engineers and medical students. I served as CEO through the infancy stages of the product and learned how to manage and motivate teams performing unpaid work. Our product, a surgical lamp for low resource populations, was featured at the Extreme Affordability Conference (hosted by University of Utah's Center for Global Surgery) in 2012 and 2013.

I performed residential security system installations and customer training, averaging 3-5 homes per day. Overall I installed approximately 1000 security systems across the United States (Detroit, Atlanta, LA, Cincinnati, and Missouri) In addition, I promoted and sold additional sensors to customers during the installation in their home. In 2009 I personally NET $12K in sales and was the top selling techinician in the office for 2008 and 2009.
